Saturday 2nd January 2010 - New Year Outing (by car)
Our New Year Outing for 2010 will again be on the first Saturday of the year.  These excursions continue to be popular and to provide an opportunity for members to get their year's birdwatching off to a good start.  They often produce sightings of unusual species - in recent years Whooper Swan, Red-throated Diver, Smew, Velvet Scoter and Snow Bunting are among the birds we have seen, while 2009 was notable for eight species of gull, including the very rare Glaucous-winged Gull.

The exact destination for our trip in 2010 will depend on information at the time on where the more unusual birds are to be found, but it is likely that it will be in South Northumberland or around the estuary of the Tees.

Travel will be in members' cars, starting from a meeting point to be confirmed in the December newsletter at 9.00 a.m. and getting back around 4.00 or 4.30 p.m.  No advance booking is needed.
