Minutes of the Meeting held on 7 October 2008 at 9 Frosterley Close, Newton Hall, Durham
Present: D Gibson, J Hogg, R
Cowen, D Sowerbutts
1. Apologies:
R Logan
2. Minutes of last meeting
Accepted subject to Durham Bird Club being substituted for the reference to the BTO in AOB.
3. Matters arising
» David G mentioned that he had not been able to progress the Grant Application. We need a sponsor and both Regional and National offices felt they were to closely connected to Durham Group to be able to act as sponsors. It was suggested we try the Countryside Rangers or possibly Durham Wildlife Trust.
» Richard mentioned the wind farm application at Hawthorn had now been withdrawn.
» David G suggested writing now to see if David Steel could give a talk in Jan or Feb 2010. It was agreed this would be a good idea.
» Richard mentioned he had seen no Twite when he did the Twite survey. David S mentioned that so far there had been only one record in the Atlas for Durham.
» David S also mentioned that a report was being written for DBC's The Lek about the Atlas findings.
4. Correspondence
David G mentioned he had received:
» Bird Holidays which appeared to be a really good magazine.
» RSPB leaflet "A Little Time goes a Long Way" which could be useful for some voluntary ideas. It was mentioned that we may be able to help on this when Saltholme opens.
» A reminder for Feed the Birds Day on 25 October.
5. Holy Island
David S mentioned we have a 29 seater bus costing £340.00. At present we had 19 booked which would mean a loss.
6. Roy Dennis
David G mentioned he had given out a number of notices for the Roy Dennis talk and was hopeful we would get a good turnout. It was also mentioned that DBC were mentioning it on their website.
7. Winter Field Trip
It was mentioned that there are no facilities at Campfield and this will have to be borne in mind when we visit in February. Julie also will consider other sites in the locality which it may be possible to visit as well.
8. AOB
Norfolk - 10 people (other than Committee members) have expressed an interest. We are still considering 3 nights and Julie agreed to get a minibus quote and David G a hotel quote. It was agreed that this trip cannot be subsidised by Group Funds. Substantial deposits will therefore be required when this is booked.
9. Date of next meeting
13 January 2009 at 9 Frosterley Close.
