2. Minutes of last meeting

3. Matters arising
Richard mentioned he had written an article for the Bowburn Interchange and hoped to continue to do this. The Interchange is published once a quarter and Richard hoped it may stimulate some interest in the Bowburn area.
4. Correspondence
» The Office for the North East had asked consultants to report on a proposed Coastal Development Framework. A report had been produced which did encourage activity holiday development in the Region including watching wildlife. RSPB were mentioned in the report with a few references to the future Saltholme Reserve. Comments had been sent giving broad support for the proposals
» There had recently been a letter in the Journal expressing similar concerns about spraying set aside land to those previously expressed by Richard. He was considering making further representations perhaps in conjunction with Durham Bird Club.
» An agreement had been reached with the University Bird Club whereby the Club would pay a membership of £5.00 for the rest of the year and any member attending meetings would pay £1.00 entrance fee.
5. Minibus Trip
At present only 5 people are committed to go - we need 13. Will be raised at next Meeting on 16 January and final decision about going will be made soon afterwards.
6. Summer Field Trips
The following areas were suggested:
» Bishop Middleham and Old Quarrington between the visits to West Durham and Leighton Moss.
» Frosterley after Leighton Moss.
Dates for all 3 sites to be arranged and later field trips to be decided soon.
7. Newsletter
The committee thought the format was fine and no complaints had been received from members. Julie, who had worked hard to produce it, was happy to continue with it and welcomed the colour photos that had been sent to her.
8. Speakers for 2007/2008 programme
A few speakers were suggested and Julie has agreed to approach them.
9. AOB
» Richard mentioned for information works being carried out at the Crow Trees Local Nature Reserve and expressed some concerns about them as they may affect bird life there.
» He also mentioned two proposed windfarms now subject to planning applications, one at Haswell Moor and the other at Butterwick. He agreed to contact Regional Office to see whether there was considered to be any sensitive sites in the vicinity of either. He also drew attention to the entry on Durham Bird Club's website asking people to make representations about the proposed windfarm on Lewis.
» Ray mentioned a Raptor Conference held at Durham County Cricket Club some 2 months ago. The Committee was disappointed that no one in Durham appeared to have been informed about this.
