» David S mentioned a possible proposal for a wind farm at Murton which may affect feeding station for tree sparrow and corn bunting. Will need to be kept under review. However there appeared to be no further news re a similar proposal at South Wingate which may have significant implications for Hurworth Burn.

» David G had received a letter from Co-op Bank about sponsorship. However they were not willing to sponsor the Newsletter.
» HQ had written to say Carol Bamber was the new Volunteers Officer for the North. Her email address is carol.bamber@rspb.org.uk.
5. AGM 24 April
A brief discussion about the agenda took place. It was agreed a further request be made for Members to join the Committee.
6. Speakers
» Julie mentioned she was wondering whether it remained appropriate to invite David Bellamy to be a speaker. After some discussion it was agreed that if she should approach him to see if he was willing to attend and Newcastle Group also be asked if they would want to attend.
» Julie confirmed she had other names to approach. David S also suggested Noel Jackson who had recently been to the Galapagos.
Dates for all 3 sites to be arranged and later field trips to be decided soon.
7. Coach Trip to Leighton Moss
It was confirmed that the trip for 19 May as mentioned in the Newsletter was still on. It would be announced at the AGM to confirm or, if there was insufficient interest, make appropriate decision.
8. AOB
» Richard mentioned the proposed extension to Thrislington Quarry at Bishop Middleham. A discussion took place as to whether RSPB should make representations. It was decided Durham Bird club was in a better position to do this and we would support their action.
» Richard had written to Roberta Blackman-Woods about the Barker Report into the Planning system and produced the reply from her that said she agreed with his comments.
» David S reported on the accounts he had prepared for the AGM and stated that although income had been less this year he still considered the Group could donate £500.00 to RSPB. After some discussion it was agreed that as Geltsdale was still developing (a visitor centre) we should recommend that the donation be paid for that purpose.
